A List Apart Survey Results

I've just found the survey result's from A List Apart's research into the interactive media industry.

It makes for an interesting read, and as far as I'm aware this is the first time something like this has been conducted on this scale.

Hi Craig,

Thanks for the link. I think that this is a very useful insight (providing everyone that answered did so honestly) into the industry.

The bias seams to fall towards male designers / developers, which to be fair I did expect but not so dramatically.

The perception of how important education was also suppressed me. The higher earners didn't actually have much in the way of qualifications but more working experience.

The section regarding skills gaps and CSS knowledge shows me that nobody knows everything and that there will always be room for improvement.

More links like this please :-)

I saw little that surprised me in the survey too Shaun, but there was some surprises.

Like you, I found it surprising how much the bias swung towards male designers, but the point I found most interesting was the one about women who didn't perceive a bias actually earned less money than women who did perceive a gender bias.

An important point to remember though is that the majority of the participants were American. It would be interesting to see the difference in a more Euro-centric study.

Nice to see the amount of people with qualifications though, and the amount of people who considered their education to be relevant to the industry.
