Trexi Feedback

As part of our Culture Vulture assignment we have to wrap a design that we have previously made onto a product that we have been assigned after the design process has been completed. I had to design a Trexi, and my front and rear view can be seen below. Any feedback would be great help.

I like the idea of the arrows Craig, the colours are very vibrant and stand out well from the background. I think you’ll have a lot of trouble trying to make them match up to the other parts of the template, as the side view contains a selection of the front and back. Making these meet up over the edges will be tough, and you may have to prepare for a ‘rethink’ if it ends up being too hard to do.

I’m not so keen on the typography, as I think the serif font looks a bit out of place on a futuristic design such as this. I would recommend that you find a more futuristic font, with thick geometric shapes – rather ‘Designers Republic’ for want of a better phrase.

I think the shape that the type sits in should also be altered; you could possibly add arrowheads to the ends of the block, or possibly round them off. I think having square edges looks a little out of place on such an intricate design.

Wow factor, such a busy, bright, colourfull and cheery design. Im not sure what the text is about, and im wondering whether the front design on the lower part of the head shud follow round to the back.

A lot of effort is the message given out from this retro design. What is to be done with this design after its completion???

Julian: I agree with what you say about the serif font. I think I'm going to change it. It's one of those things that looks a good idea on paper, then when you digitise it it just looks a bit naff. I know I'm going to have trouble matching things up, but I'll stick at it.

With regards to the shape the type sits in, I think I'm going to make it part of the typeface I'll come up with for it.

John: Cheers for the comments. The top of the head swivels, so when you swivel it around the text would say you are here. And after the design is completed, nothing happens with it. Just another portfolio piece.

Oh ok, I think it would be great if it were to be actually placed on one of these trexi things....

So would I! I think you can submit designs, so I might submit mine. They probably receive thousands a day though, so the chances of mine getting produced are less than slim.

I like it, as I said earlier, it does have a look of Designer's Republic about it which I think comes from the colour palette you have chosen.

Do the arrows represent the characters thoughts bouncing around its head? If so he must be a confused little chap!

I like how you have created a chaotic top part and the lower part is a lot calmer with the a singular arrow linking the two together.

Oh, yes change the font!

Cheers for the feedback Scott. The arrows are meant to represent the concept of being "here", or being somewhere. It's purposefully vague. And yeah, like you said, it's meant to be the thoughts bouncing around his head.

I had an issue with the colours before as they looked really dulled out, but they appear to look fine on my Mac. That's the problem with colours on screens - they look different on every screen.

I'm planning on doing a custom typeface to try and fit in with the design, but I still want to make the text stand out considerably over the top of the arrows.

Its a good design Craig. I like the arrows and the colours really work well on the black surface.

I don't think the thick futuristic font would work Julian looking at the space it has to go into.

@John - You can buy the blank canvases to paint your own design on it. I think I might buy one to have a go as it looks really good.

Have you done the 45 degrees angle one yet? I should imagine the text would be hard to put on an angle. How would you achieve the effect?

i agree with julian the colour arrows are a good choice, very viberant and eyecatching. i dont think the font suits the design. very futuristic, the sort of thign the designer republic would use.
