Why you should pick Yellow and Red as your favourite colour combination

Yellow and Red. They flow perfectly together, and if you were to mix them, you’ll come out with orange, widely used to catch people’s attention the world over. But let’s get back to red and yellow. They’re the staple colours of many a clown’s boot, and for the romantic amongst you – you can buy yellow and red tulips.

Tulips

Red can be seen in the emergency services within the fire service, but even yellow is starting to crawl it’s way in there – an insurance broker recently stated that fire engines should be yellow instead of red after recent studies. Just by seeing that these two colours are playing such a strong role in the emergency services is reason enough alone to consider yellow and red to be one of the greatest colour combinations known to man, but the reasons don’t stop there.

Yellow Fire Engine

Red is the colour of Valentines Day and Christmas, two of the most important times of the year. Red can mean power, purity, joy and celebration. And to top it all off, Red is the warmest colour. Yellow is no less diverse, primarily being the colour of sunshine; quite possibly the single most important light in the universe. Yellow is also a happy colour, symbolising joy and happiness and again is one of the warmest colours in the colour spectrum.

If you’re after two of the brightest, most attractive and stand-out colours available to you, then you need to get your hands on red and yellow.

Yellow and Red – the happiest colours on the planet.

Although you state red is the colour of Christmas what about green? It plays a huge part in the festive colour scheme and after all if it weren't for Coke the main colour of Christmas could well be green.

You also say Red is a happy colour, but then why does it also represent anger?

Red and yellow are certainly warm colours and do represent a lot of things in todays society, especially red.

But like craig, I feel that Red does contradict itself, how can a colour that represents love also mean anger? It's also a lucky colour in China!

BRING BACK THE RED FIRE ENGINE!!

I'm sorry but Red signifies danger so thats why its best used on Fire Engines. Plus if you think back to the colours and meanings Yellow can represent cowardice, which is totally opposite to what the emergency services are all about.

I do have to admit that it is a good colour combination. I think the colours do complement themselves but nowhere near as good as Blue and Green.

I've just read that article and I still disagree. Red is possibly the most dangerous colour and obviously as most dangers ar emergencies it makes sense that a Red Fire Engine is more visable.

As for not being able to see a big red truck I again disagree. Not only because of the sheer size but Red is a highly visible colour, which is why its used for emergencies.

All: Red is somewhat of a contradictory colour, but it was in the nature of the article to only point out the positives. Craig, I was aware that red can also be the colour of anger, so it made me wonder whether or not to use the colour scheme at all.

What I really love about red and yellow together is that they are opposite ends of the spectrum - yellow: happiness and red: anger, but when brought together they're two very warm colours.

Red has so many meanings which makes it a quite universal colour scheme. Probably the biggest and best example is the McDonalds logo.

I have to admit some of the time I don't see Red as an angry colour, but I normally see it on Christmas cards.

On a similar theme does that make Santa an angry man?

I think that Red and Yellow together do create a positive feeling. however I think that as they are both primary colours they tend to look simple and basic. a combination of primary colours are most often used for products aimed at young audiences I think an example is Duplo and Lego. Also as mentioned somewhere it is used for Mcdonalds whose target demographic is to appeal to families backing up the idea that it is a positive combination... I think.

I think red and yellow is a good combination to use. I agree that red can signify some negative apsects such as danger and anger.

I do feel however that when it is combined with yellow it creates a much more warm and bright feel to it.

Lego & Duplo brings back so many memories. I agree that it is a good colour scheme for the younger generation but does that mean lego is dangerous? It wasn't in my day but it was a really good logo that everyone will recognise.

As for McDonalds does that mean their food is healthy or unhealthy due to the big red upside down warning sign?

Still McDonalds do good burgers!

I think seperate yellow and red being opposite the opposites of a that small colour specturm, both have individual meanings that arn't very similar.

But when brought together the meanings change quite alot, red changes from a dangerous colour - to one that is very warm and inviting.

People are still looking at what the meaning of red is on it's own, without realising that when colours are mixed with each other the meaning of them changes.
